Aston Villa Football Club
Aston Villa F.C., also known by many as ‘Villa’, The Villa’ and even ‘The Villans’, are a Birmingham based English football team who play within the English Premier League division. Founded in 1874, the club we’re one of the founding members of the football league back in 1888 as well as what would become in 1992 the English Premier League. The clubs current chairman is Randy Lerner, who took the club off after a short spell floating under previous chairman and owner Doug Ellis.
As a founding member of the original Football League, Aston Villa are amongst of the English League’s most successful sides with some seven FA Cup wins as well as seven First Division titles. Villa have also seen success on the other side of the channel, as one of only four English clubs to win the European Cup in 1982. All in all Aston Villa have recorded 20 significant football honors in their history, however the majority of these came before the outbreak of the Second World War, with their performance never able to match that of their pre-war sides right up to the present day.

Villa Park Stadium
Villa’s present home ground is Villa Park, a stadium rated with 4 stars from football body UEFA, but they have also played at two other locations including Perry Barr between 1876 and 1897 as well as Aston Park from 1874 to 1876. In the Villa Park is the eighth largest football stadium within England, as well as being the biggest in the Midlands, with a capacity of approximately 51,000. In its time this stadium has played host to a sixteen senior English international games, as well as 55 FA Cup semi finals which is a record in the competition.
Aston Villa Football Shirts
The club plays their football in the colours of a claret shirt, which has sky blue sleeves, and a pair of white shorts. When Aston Villa first became a professional team they used to generally play in plain shirts, often grey, white or with a shade of blue. Nowadays the club play in a very different kit, with even the addition of a new crest design which was unveiled on the 2nd of May in 2007 in time for what was then to be the coming 07-08 football season. The team’s motto did however remain the same, which reads as ‘Prepared’. The club have announced that for the 2008-09 Premiership season that they will not be having commercial sponsorship, instead they will be wearing the logos of registered charity Acorns Children’s Hospice and will be the first English club to have ever done this.
