Everton Football Club

Everton FC, nicknamed ‘The Toffees’ and ‘The Blues’ by their legion of faithful supporters, are one of two professional clubs based in Liverpool who play their football in the English Leagues top flight, the Premier League. The club feature as one of the most successful football clubs within the English league of all time, with a staggering nine League titles and five FA Cup wins. Despite this success, the last time that the club has won a title was in the FA Cup of the 1995 season some 13 years ago.

The club’s history starts back in 1878, the year in which they we’re founded and are the older of the two main rival clubs in the city with Liverpool FC being formed some 14 years later in 1892. The rivalry between the clubs is far deeper than merely geographical and stems from a rental dispute over Anfield, which was the home of Everton but became that of Liverpool after the said dispute. Since then, Everton FC have played their football at Goodison park which was the first stadium within the United Kingdom to play host to professional football and regularly brings some of the largest average crowds for English League games.

Everton we’re not always know by this name, with the club originally being names St. Domingo after their founding in 1878. This name came from the name of the church parish which set the club up as an alternative sport which they could play during the winter months and in addition to the cricket they frequently played during summer. After a single year St. Domingo we’re renamed to Everton, after the area in which the football club we’re based. In addition, Everton FC we’re also a founding member of the English Football League back in 1888 and gained their first league title in the season of 1890-91. Since then, the team have managed to win a host of titles and trophies during their history which has resulting in their fan base being one of the largest of any of the Premier League’s teams of approximately 2.8 million fans, with only Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool having larger numbers of fans worldwide than the club.

Everton FC Football Shirt

Everton FC originally began playing in a blue and white striped shirt, although the club allowed new players to continue to play in the colours of their previous teams which resulted in much confusion during matches. It was later decided that the clubs shirts we’re to all be dyed black to both save costs as well as to give the club a far more professional look. However, many fans thought that an entirely black shirt was far too morbid so a scarlet sash was soon added to the black shirts. Today however, the club play in a royal blue shirt at home with both white shorts and white socks. The away kit doesn’t differ much, with both the shorts and socks remaining the same but with a white shirt with a navy and gray trim. This kit is manufactured by Umbro and bares the logo of the clubs current sponsers, Chang beer.
