Hull City Football Club

Hull City A.F.C. (Association Football Club) is located in Kingston upon Hull (East Riding of Yorkshire). It is an English Football club that participated for the first time in its history in the top tier of English Football during the 2008-2009 season. The club was founded in 1904 and got its best achievements in the old second divisions in 1909-1910 by finishing 3rd; they also went to the semi final of the FA cup in 1930.

Stadium

KC Stadium is the name of their stadium in Hull. They used to play at Boothferry Park and moved to KC in 2002. Between 1904 and 1905, Hull City used to play their home games also at The Boulevard.

They were able to use this pitch when not use by the rugby league, the rent was a sum of £100 per year. Hull City decided then to built their own ground, Anlaby Road, they opened it in 1906. But a threat of rerouting the railway line through the Anlaby Road convinced the club to get another land (between Boothferry Road and North Road) to secure its future and built another Stadium. During World War II, Anlaby Road was damaged by the Blitz. The cost of the repairs was estimated at £1000. The Cricket Club left the stadium at the same time and in 1943, the tenancy was officially ended. Hull City AFC returned then to the Boulevard Ground between 1944 and 1945.

Hull City new stadium’s work did not start until 1932 due to finacial problems. Then due to some other problems and plans the construction didnot strat again before 1939. The stadium finally opens 31 August 1946 under the name of Boothferry Park. In 1949 for the game against Manchester United F.C. the attendance was 55,019; it is the record. Hull City AFC and the city's rugby league; moved into the newly-built KC Stadium in 2002.The KC Stadium was named 'Best Ground' at the 2006 Football League Awards.

Colours

The club’s nickname ‘The Tigers’ originated from their colours. Hull City players wear black and amber shorts with black shorts; even though the first colours were white back in 1904. They then wore black and amber striped shirts until the Second World War except one season where they wore sky blue shirts. They then played with plain Amber shirts till the early 60s and then swapped to the stripped shirts again. Today’s kit features Amber and black stripped shirts with the logo of the club, which is an Amber shield with a tiger’s head.
